The birth of mama me fitness

and the story that got it started

I have always been an athlete.

I was told that becoming a mom it would all change.  That I would not be able to keep lifting weights and would have reduce my intensity. I was told to “just wait untll baby is here, you won’t have any time for working out”….     When I became pregnant I was excited, nervous, and scared.   I wanted to be healthy for my baby and myself.  I asked my OB and midwives about exercise and was told to just keep doing what I was doing, that it was ok if it felt good.  But I knew that this was not the right advise for me.   I knew there had to be more out there to support the pregnant body. I wasn’t just an athlete anymore, I was becoming a mother.

So I started on my own journey to educate myself.   I found Brianna Battles Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Certification and started following accredited programs like Birthfit and Mamastefit. I nerded out on podcasts about perinatal fitness and Birth Stories…lots of birth stories!

I made it through my first pregnancy and birth with a malpositioned baby, three hours of pushing, and a healthy son.  And afterward, I struggled.

My postpartum body was not my own and there was little guidance on how to recover from pregnancy and giving birth to a baby.

I continued my journey to educated myself and I entered my second pregnancy smarter and more confidentI continued to do my workout routine with educated modifications, add in pelvic mobility,  and slowed down to focus on my Breath.    This lead to a more confident second labor and very quick precipitous birth of my second Son.   I then went into my second postpartum period with more confidence and patience.  Recovering was slower, but the results were finding a stronger and more confident self.

My own journey is what has led me to start MamaMEfitness.   I want to find mothers and help them go through pregnancy, enter labor, and postpartum with confidence.  Fitness and Self Care does not end when you become a mother.
